lab30 – 8th Augsburg Media Art Laboratory (Nov 5th-Nov 7th, 2009)

Test arrangements in an Electro-Biotope

lab30, Augsburg’s Media Arts Festival, is going to take place this year for the 8th time. From November 5th to November 7th, Kulturhaus abraxas in Augsburg will be transformed into an international arts laboratory for media and installation artists, for sound, electronics, technicians and digitals artists who make up the offspring of the European arts academy scene. This festival of electronic arts has found its level within the relevant festival landscape, moving on from being an insider’s tip to becoming a constant in the yearly agenda of visitors and artists who travel the scene.
For lab30 2009, presentations from all over Europe reached the city of Augsburg’s cultural department (Kulturamt). The team of curators has chosen 30 installations, sound experiments and visuals that can now be visited, looked at, played, worked on or experienced live on stage in three densely packed festival days. Back to nature - a philosophical loop in the history of ideas that is rethought again and again in our more and more technical civilisation. Strikingly many artists of lab.30 2009 deal with the reflection about biomechanical processes and transpond them into sounds, hypnotic pictures, futuristic visions and nature-identical patterns, which can all be seen in an exhibition, concerts and performances. The "lab award" will again be given to one of the most innovative exhibits. After the big success in 2008, lab30 is also open on saturday afternoon.
Already legendary: the IndieTronica Club Nights at abraxas Nordflügel and Kantine (Kulturpark West). They feature electronic web sounds, hand-made song structures, ingenious soundscapes and digitally animated tracks, all of them presented in a structure that moves between DJing, computer live performance and analogue showcase.

Lab30 2010 will present media arts from Nov 4th - Nov 6th, 2010 in Augsburg.
