ERICH LESOVSKY (BERLIN): APOPHIS - DIE SANDBANK DER SCHILDKRÖTE
Dust to dust. When apocalyptic myths seem to come true in climate catastrophes, the question of the connection between humans and nature arises. "APOPHIS" is an interactive video- and audio-installation that transforms the visitor into the particle cloud of a sandstorm in real time, converts their movements into physically calculated grains of sand, in order to trace this connection.
The "sandbar of Apophis" (also called the "sandbar of the turtle"), in ancient Egyptian mythology refers to a low Nile water level or a low Nile tide; however, as a figure of speech, the expression is also used to refer to famine, death, chaos or unrest.
Staub zu Staub - wenn apokalyptische Mythen in Klimakatastrophen wahr zu werden scheinen, stellt sich die Frage nach der Verbindung zwischen Menschen und Natur. „APOPHIS“ ist eine interaktive Video- und Audioinstallation, die in Echtzeit die Zuschauenden in die Partikelwolke eines Sandsturms verwandelt, deren Bewegungen in physikalisch berechnete Sandkörner umsetzt und dieser Verbindung nachspürt.
Die „Sandbank des Apophis“ (auch „Sandbank der Schildkröte“ genannt), bezeichnet in der altägyptischen Mythologie einen niedrigen Nilwasserpegel oder eine geringe Nilflut; als Redewendung, wird der Ausdruck aber auch als Bezeichnung für Hungersnot, Tod, Chaos, oder Unruhen genutzt.
