MARC LEE (CH): USED TO BE MY HOME TOO
Are we living in a globalized world that is becoming more and more homogeneous? Plant, fungus and animal species are continuously decreasing. Will only domesticated species survive in the distant future? What effects does this homogenization process have on our lives and our environment?
"Used to be my home too" addresses this global change and shows how humans have become biodiverse agents interacting with the most fundamental processes of the earth.
In this experiment, people use Google Earth to fly to locations to which i-Naturalist app users send real-time observations of organisms. This is done by automatically adding threatened and extinct species of plants, fungi, and animals that are most taxonomically similar and occurred in the same location. This data comes from RedList.org.
Leben wir in einer globalisierten Welt, die immer homogener wird? Pflanzen-, Pilz- und Tierarten verringern sich kontinuierlich. Überleben in ferner Zukunft nur noch domestizierte Arten? Welche Auswirkungen hat dieser Homogenisierungsprozess auf unser Leben und unsere Umwelt?
„Used to be my home too“ thematisiert diesen globalen Wandel und zeigt, wie Menschen zu biodiversen Agenten und Agentinnen geworden sind, welche mit den grundlegendsten Prozessen der Erde interagieren.
In diesem Experiment fliegt man mittels Google Earth zu den Orten, an denen die i-Naturalist-App-Nutzerinnen und Nutzer in Echtzeit Beobachtungen von Organismen senden. Dazu werden automatisch bedrohte und ausgestorbene Pflanzen-, Pilz- und Tierarten hinzugefügt, welche taxonomisch am ähnlichsten sind und am selben Ort vorkamen. Diese Daten stammen von RedList.org.
