Für seine audiovisuellen Arbeiten setzt der Kanadier MAOTIK zunächst an der Theorie an: Grundlage von »Durations« sind Mikro-Rhythmen. Diese Rhythmen werden in eine schlichte, geometrische Bildsprache umgearbeitet, die uns – hochaufgelöst projiziert - Raum und Zeit neu wahrnehmen lässt und ein besonderes Bild- und Klang-Erlebnis hervorruft. Klingt physikalisch, aber wirkt psychedelisch!

MAOTIK (MATHIEU LESOURD, CA):
Rhythm is described as the layout of sounds of different lengths played within a regular or irregular beat. Breaking these sounds down with granulation effect while following the rhythm, you obtain micro-rhythms within those beats. This is the starting point of “Durations”. When it comes to the visual aspect, the idea is to associate space perception with the notion of time. The evolution of the rhythm influences the dimension of the environment when the sound granulation shapes the texture of the geometrical instantiation (group of items). Using minimal aesthetics and audio reactive behaviour, “Durations” immerses the audience in an organic audio-visual experience.
